Board Assessment Committee
Objective #1: Effectiveness Assessment
Assess effectiveness of current board structure (in the context of the Carver model of governance) in achieving DC mission
1) Evaluate collective or integrated board performance of essential functions (e.g. safe space for info exchange, capacity-building for using diversity as an asset, consensus decision-making, conflict management, empowerment, strategic planning, fiscal jurisprudence)
2) Promote individual board member accountability/adherence to this developmental framework (self assessment tool). Helping each other be an effective support/resource for success of CEO + DC staff. Encouraging multiple perspectives and being effective advocates for those without a voice (or at risk/vulnerable/marginalized).
Objective #2: Creative collaboration Piloting
Use board assessment workgroup as a pilot area for creative collaborative learning and mentoring in 'servant/authentic leadership'
3) Benchmark or pilot other ways to enrich or enhance board member engagement and contribution to fulfilling DC mission/vision.
4) Identifying and aligning passions, skills, experience, and knowledge of board members to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of the DC board/organization. This process includes interpersonal and cross-cultural communication as well as technology-enabled info exchange.

Ideas for quality improvement and benchmarking 'best practices'
As for next steps, I would like to see 100% Board member completion of Charlie's survey tool on Board Effectiveness; a criterion set for "Best practice standards" for Non-profit Boards who are engaged in "Diversity training/education"; and feasibility of building/implementing an online, periodic assessment of "Intercultural development inventory" for our DC Board (work with Savita K for more details).
